Privacy policy
Last updated: October 3, 2026
Science Learning Center (SLC), maintained by Miguel Guhlin, is designed to collect as little student data as possible. This notice covers the current public site and its Visual Challenges activity.
The short version
- No student accounts, logins, or identifying information are required.
- Your selected answers and evidence text are processed in the open page. SLC does not send them to a server.
- SLC adds no analytics, advertising, tracking cookies, or third-party embeds.
- SLC does not sell student responses, use them for profiling, or send them for AI model training.
- GitHub Pages delivers the site and may process technical request information under its own privacy policy.
What the activity processes
Visual Challenges temporarily holds your grade and challenge selection, answer choice, evidence text, and whether you checked an answer. This lets you move between challenges and return to your work during the same page session. The activity uses memory, not cookies, local storage, or a student database.
Retention and deletion
SLC does not persist your activity responses. Reloading the page starts a new activity session; closing the page ends the session. A browser may independently restore form entries or a previously open page. On a shared device, reload the activity and close the tab when finished, and follow your school's browser-clearing practices. Posters saved or printed by you remain in your downloads or printed copies until you remove them.
Student and family choices
You can discuss the challenges aloud or answer on paper instead of typing. Students should enter scientific reasoning only, without names, student IDs, contact details, or sensitive records. Families and eligible students can raise classroom privacy questions with their teacher or school. SLC has no student response records for its maintainer to retrieve, correct, export, or delete.
Hosting and external links
The public site is hosted by GitHub Pages. Its hosting infrastructure may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser information, requested pages, and request times. These hosting records are separate from activity responses, which SLC does not transmit. Hosting retention and privacy requests are governed by the GitHub General Privacy Statement.
Images, styles, and activity scripts are served with the site. The current SLC does not connect to Google storage, a database, an AI service, or an analytics service. Opening an external link, including a source or license link, takes you to a service with its own privacy practices.
Security and school use
The public site uses HTTPS. Browser and device security remain important because people with access to the device may see on-screen work. Teachers and schools decide how to use SLC appropriately with their students and apply their own supervision, privacy, and consent procedures.
Self-hosting and future activities
A school that hosts a copy controls its hosting logs and any added services. If a deployment adds accounts, response collection, storage, analytics, or integrations, its operator should publish a notice identifying what is collected, the purpose, provider, retention period, deletion process, and privacy contact before students use those features. Future SLC activities will be reflected in this policy as their data practices change.
Questions and updates
For general questions about the public site, contact the maintainer through the SLC repository issue tracker. Issues are public; do not post student information or private records. For classroom records, contact your school. For hosting privacy requests, use GitHub's privacy contact options.
This notice follows DrawSplat's plain-language, minimal-data approach, adapted to SLC's current features. It does not import DrawSplat's accounts, storage options, or managed-service commitments.
